Creative Photography Workshops
Immersive photographic retreats in the Cévennes hills of southern France.
Upcoming workshops
6-11 September 2026
The Cévennes at the end of summer - golden light, long evenings and landscapes rich with texture.
25-30 April 2027
Spring in the Cévennes - wildflowers, flowing rivers and a landscape alive with fresh colour and new growth.
I am a photographer living in the Cévennes, where I have developed a long-term practice exploring landscape, transitions and time in my garden and the surrounding hills.
This workshop is a Learning Insights collaboration with renowned photographer and teacher Wendy Bagnall. Wendy and I have complementary ways of approaching creative photography. Together, we are offering a small-group immersive retreat designed to encourage personal exploration, visual development and a deeper engagement with landscape through photography.
During the retreat, we will explore creative approaches including intentional camera movement, in-camera multiple exposures and the layering and refinement of multiple exposures using Adobe Photoshop. These techniques are used not simply as effects, but as ways of responding more intuitively to place, light and the passing of time.
The Cévennes
The Cévennes National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site in southern France, is a landscape of ancient chestnut forests, stone terraces, granite ridges and shifting light. One of the least populated regions in France, it remains a place of remarkable tranquillity, where traditional landscapes and ways of life have endured over centuries.
From vast open views to intimate details in woodland, gardens and old stone villages, the Cévennes offers endless possibilities for creative photography.
It is a landscape shaped by time, where curiosity and patience are rewarded.
Our approach
During the workshop we will explore:
Creative responses to the landscape
Working with movement, light, and perception
Multiple exposure and in-camera experimentation
Layered image-making in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop*
Developing a more personal visual language
These approaches are offered as tools within a broader practice of observation and interpretation.
*To fully benefit from this workshop, you will need to bring your own laptop with Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop
About us
Lou Sayers
Lou is a nature photographer whose work is rooted in long-term observation of the Cévennes landscape. Through photography, she explores ideas of transformation, time and place, developing an intimate relationship with the changing seasons and rhythms of the natural world.
Her work has been exhibited at the RHS Photography Show at the Saatchi Gallery (2026).
Wendy Bagnall
Wendy is a photographer and teacher whose work explores the relationship between landscape, light and perception. Through her use of texture and form, she creates images that express an intuitive and emotional response to the natural world.
Her work has been exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition, London, and the Toronto Photography Exhibition.
Our location
Our home for the five days is Mas Rouveyrac, a restored stone farmhouse set within 27 acres of chestnut groves, terraces, and streams within the National Park of the Cévennes.
With panoramic views, open skies, and constantly changing light, the surrounding landscape provides an ever-changing source of inspiration. The house has been thoughtfully renovated with eco-conscious principles offering comfort and simplicity in a deeply natural setting.
Time is built into the workshop for rest, reflection and immersion in the landscape.
Who this is for
This workshop is for photographers who are interested in:
Moving beyond purely technical image-making
Developing a more intuitive and personal approach to photography
Engaging deeply with landscape and a sense of place
Exploring creative processes including intentional camera movement and multiple exposure
No prior experience with these techniques is required. What matters most is curiosity, openness and a willingness to experiment
The workshop offers a supportive and encouraging environment where photographers at different stages of their journey can explore new approaches, experiment with ideas and develop their own creative expression.
